Leaders Montego Bay United have a fat chance to ratchet up their third consecutive Jamaica Premier League football victory when they tackle second-from-bottom Molynes United on Sunday at Stadium East.

The game kicks off a double header at the venue, where defending champions Cavalier Soccer Club and Portmore United are slated to contest the feature match at 5:30 p.m.

Western Jamaica standard bearers MoBay United have been most impressive through the opening seven rounds, sealing five wins - four in the past five matches - to be top of the pile on 16 points.

Even at this early stage, Molynes United are 11 points adrift and have a great deal of catching up to do in the league. Three draws in their last three matches indicate that the mid-city players are making a real effort to turn around their early season form. But even while fighting back for a 2-2 draw last Sunday against last-place Spanish Town Police FC, who are newcomers, Molynes were still haemorrhaging goals.

Already, they have conceded 12 and must improve big time to hold off the league's highest scoring team, MoBay United, who have pumped in 16 goals. Dwight Merrick, who leads the scoring charts with four goals, along with Jahmari Clarke and Jourdain Fletcher, who have netted three goals apiece, have been in form for MoBay and likely to play a role in another win.

Cavalier were slow out of the blocks, but maximum points from their past two matches have catapulted them up the table into fifth on 10 points, two points less than third-place Portmore United, who have played one more game.

Portmore United, coached by a man who mastered the art of defending as a player, Rodolph Austin, have shown similar characteristics to be the league's stingiest, conceding a mere three goals in seven matches. That quality has enabled a four-game losing streak, with ties in the past two encounters.

Scoring, and not creating chances, has been a problem for Cavalier who will have to exercise greater composure and sharpness in what is expected to be a traditionally tough battle.

Elsewhere, Mount Pleasant Football Academy, though 11th, get a chance to jump up the table when they host sixth-place Chapelton Maroons. The latter bolted out of the blocks with three wins, but lost four games since on the trot, including their last, at home, on Sunday. Second-place Racing United, unbeaten in six matches with three wins and as many draws, should extend Spanish Town Police's rough baptism; Tivoli, 12th with six points and Waterhouse, fourth on 12, should be involved in a dogfight; a similar situation like 10th-place Dunbeholden (seven points) and sixth-place Arnett, on nine points.
