daCosta Cup: Glenmuir in last four

December 10, 2025

Glenmuir High moved into the semifinals of the daCosta Cup football competition following an emphatic 4-0 win over last year's beaten finalists McGrath High.

The win lifted Glenmuir to six points in Zone 1 following their 3-2 victory over Kemps Hill last Saturday. Cornwall College who play Kemps Hill in the same zone today are on three. Kemps Hill and the eliminated McGrath are yet to gain a point.

In what was a must-win for McGrath, they found themselves on the back foot very early as Orel Miller put the home team Glenmuir ahead in the fifth minute of play. Corey Nicely doubled Glenmuir's lead in the 33rd minute, sending them into the halftime break up 2-0.

At the restart, with the writing on the wall, McGrath tried desperately to get back into the contest, but the home team ensured they had no chance. Miller scored his second goal in the 50th minute to extend the lead to 3-0, before top marksman and skipper Orane Watson put the icing on the cake, scoring in the 83rd minute to break his three-match goal drought and seal the commanding 4-0 victory.

Glenmuir's head coach Andre Peart was pleased with his team's display.

"The boys turned up today and they were very positive from the start as they showed a lot of energy. We will not take our feet off the gas as we have some four days to go for our next match. It is all about recovery for them now," said Peart, whose team has now eliminated both finalists from last year's competition.
